ROUTES TO AND FROM SEAHOUSES

TRAIN SERVICES pass close to us on the main east coast, London to Edinburgh line. Unfortunately, the vast majority do just that - they pass! A very few do stop at CHATHILL. Failing that, there are the bus service connections from BERWICK-UPON-TWEED and from ALNMOUTH  FOR  ALNWICK stations.

LONG DISTANCE COACHES serve both ALNWICK and BERWICK-UPON-TWEED. Some leave the A1 to come a little closer to us, at BELFORD.

LOCAL BUS timetables are displayed at most bus stops, though they may be affected by season and by school terms.

MOTORING routes are shown on the map, particularly the A1 (very dark green) and recommended lesser routes (in red). Some visitors are attracted by the signposted Northumberland Coastal Route which passes through Seahouses as well as Beadnell and Bamburgh.

Designated CYCLEWAYS make use mainly of the minor roads, old railway lines, and purpose-built cycle tracks throughout the area, including the centres of Seahouses and other local villages.

Being about half-way between Edinburgh and Newcastle airports there is a choice but no tailor-made route BY AIR.

Anyone able to come to Seahouses BY SEA in their own craft finds a ready welcome in the harbour: the entrance is at 55° 35' 02" N, 001° 38' 55" W, south-going. Having tied up, a visit is made to the Harbourmaster's office on the quayside, to check on such matters as water depths and facilities available to visiting craft.

LONG-DISTANCE WALKS passing through Seahouses include the Northumberland Coast Path and St. Oswald's Way.  LOCAL COAST WALKS to and from Seahouses have their own page.

The big blank space west of the A1 is moorland.

As well as marine emergencies, there are too many calls to cars stranded on the Holy Island causeway despite clear warnings.
